How the Online Design Studio Works for Your Customers

Last updated

The Web2ink Designer is the tool your customers use to personalize a product on your site before adding it to cart. This article covers how it works end-to-end, and where you control it from.

What customers can do

  • Design on full product coverage — not just a single print area, but wherever your product supports decoration.
  • Build team/roster orders with personalization — names, numbers, and per-item customization for team apparel, in one order.
  • Design from any device — the designer is built to work on desktop, tablet, and mobile.
  • Get automatically warned when they upload a low-quality image, so you get fewer "the print looks fuzzy" complaints after the fact.
  • Save a design and come back to it later, or reorder it with one click in the future.

Where the designer lives on your site

The designer is embedded on your product pages via a shortcode your Web2ink site is already configured with — you don't need to build this yourself. If you're customizing a page in Elementor and need to place or reposition the designer, use the Web2ink section widget for the designer rather than rebuilding it from scratch, so saved-design behavior keeps working correctly.

Turning the designer on or off per product

Not every product needs to be designable — some shops sell blank stock alongside customizable items. This is controlled per-product in the WooCommerce product editor, in the Web2ink product settings panel, where you'll find the option to allow (or disable) the designer for that specific product, along with:

  • Which sides of the product can be decorated
  • Which print processes are available for it
  • Size type (fixed sizes vs. dimensional/range sizing for things like banners)

See Setting Up Print Processes, Colors & Design Charges for how those options tie into pricing.

Saved designs and reordering

Every saved design is tied to the customer's account, the product, and the specific customization (colors, sizes, artwork, pricing at the time). This is what powers one-click reorders — when a customer reorders, Web2ink rebuilds and re-prices the saved design fresh rather than reusing a stale price. See How Reorders Are Re-Priced for details.

Design access and permissions

Saved designs can be made private to the customer, or exposed as templates/marketplace items depending on how you've configured that product or store. If you're setting up a template library or marketplace customers can browse and start from, that's managed through the same design tools — reach out to support if you want help configuring which designs are public starting points versus private customer work.

Troubleshooting quick hits

  • Designer not appearing on a product page? Confirm "Allow designer" is enabled for that product, and that the page hasn't had the designer widget removed in Elementor.
  • Customer says a saved design "disappeared"? Saved designs are tied to their logged-in account — confirm they're signed in with the same account they used to save it.
  • Poor print quality complaints despite the quality-check warning? The warning flags likely-low-resolution uploads but doesn't block submission — customers can proceed anyway. Consider a proof step for orders using flagged artwork (see Sending & Approving Customer Proofs).
