Setting Quantity Breaks, Tiered Pricing & Discount Groups

Last updated

Web2ink supports two separate ways to give customers a better price at higher quantities or for special relationships: quantity-based tiered pricing on the product itself, and user discount groups tied to a customer's account.

Quantity breaks & tiered pricing

Each product's price chart can define pricing that changes with quantity, using one of two methods:

  • Stack (step) pricing — the price steps down at each quantity breakpoint you define (e.g., 1–11 units at one price, 12–23 at a lower price, 24–49 lower still).
  • Smooth (interpolated) pricing — instead of hard steps, price interpolates smoothly between the quantity points you set, avoiding sharp jumps right at a breakpoint.

To set this up: open the product in WooCommerce, go to the Web2ink pricing panel, and build out your price chart with quantity breakpoints and the price at each one. Choose stack or smooth based on whether you want visible tier jumps or a smoother curve.

Minimum quantity is set per product — orders are priced using the greater of your minimum or the actual quantity when looking up the tier, but charged on the actual quantity, so keep your minimum enforced at checkout if you don't want to fulfill small orders below it.

User discount groups

Beyond product-level quantity pricing, you can group specific customers (schools, corporate accounts, repeat wholesale buyers, staff, etc.) into a discount group that applies automatically at checkout, layered into the pricing calculation after add-ons and before design charges.

To set up a discount group:

  1. Go to Web2ink → Settings and find the user discount / customer group configuration.
  2. Create a group and define its discount.
  3. Assign customers to that group from their user profile, or via bulk assignment if you're onboarding many accounts at once.

Payment terms

For business customers you invoice rather than charge at checkout, Web2ink supports a "Pay by Terms" payment method — a dedicated WooCommerce payment gateway that lets qualifying customers place an order without paying immediately, for invoicing on your agreed terms. This is commonly combined with discount groups for wholesale or account customers. Enable and assign it the same place you manage payment gateways and discount groups.

A note on stacking

Quantity-tier pricing, discount groups, add-ons, and store markup all apply in a defined order (see How Web2ink Calculates a Price, Step by Step) — they stack rather than override each other, with the notable exception of a design's custom price, which replaces the entire calculation if one is set.

Troubleshooting

  • Customer says their discount didn't apply — confirm their account is actually assigned to the discount group, not just that the group exists.
  • Tiered pricing shows the wrong price near a breakpoint — double check whether the product uses stack or smooth pricing; smooth pricing won't show a hard jump the way stack pricing does, which can look "wrong" if you're expecting a step.
